Position OverviewThe Lead Fabricator at SignCrafters is responsible for welding sign structures and attaching steel saddles used to anchor signs to poles. This role requires extensive experience in reading shop drawings and spec sheets to plan and cut materials, then weld them into durable and functional sign frames. The Lead Fabricator will also apply aluminum sheeting to cover sign frames, perform rough sanding for paint preparation, and guide the fabrication team by training and mentoring new fabricators. With at least 5 years of sign industry experience, the Lead Fabricator ensures high-quality workmanship and a smooth fabrication process.
Key Responsibilities
- Welding and Fabrication: Welding of sign frames and steel saddles to create sturdy structures that can be anchored to steel poles.
- Material Preparation: Read and interpret spec sheets to plan material cuts and welding details, ensuring accuracy in frame construction.
- Aluminum Sheeting: Application of aluminum sheeting to cover sign frames, ensuring clean, professional finishes.
- Sanding: Perform rough sanding of metal frames to prepare surfaces for painting, ensuring that paint adheres properly.
- Sign Handling: Assist fellow fabricators with lifting and moving heavy signs to facilitate the fabrication process.
- Training and Mentoring: Educate and train new and upcoming fabricators, sharing knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and fabrication processes.

- Local Storage Drives: Used for file storage and access to spec sheets and build files.

Performance and Productivity ExpectationsThe Lead Fabricator will be evaluated on the accuracy of welded frames, the quality of aluminum sheeting application, and the consistency in completing prep work for paint. Additionally, success will be measured by the effective mentoring and training of newer fabricators, ensuring their professional growth. Timeliness in completing tasks, the ability to read and interpret shop drawings, and collaboration effectiveness will also be critical to success in this role.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding and fabricating metal structures.
- Proven ability to read and interpret shop drawings and spec sheets.
