What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant position at Signal Centers?

This person assists with the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, equipment, and building security of all of Signal Centers properties and satellite offices. The regular weekday schedule for the position is 9am – 5pm except for Thursday’s the hours are 7am – 3pm. Some occasional work outside these hours for fundraising events and assistance with community volunteer projects, etc. may be required. JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: 1. Assist with maintenance and repairs to all Signal Center properties and equipment as needed including Germantown Road, Bailey Avenue, and the Retail Center Annex. This includes: a) following through on all work orders as assigned. b) operating company vehicle/van to satellite facilities as assigned and performing necessary repairs to keep the offices open and operating. c) Responsible for performing preventative maintenance check-ups on critical areas such as roof, HVAC, plumbing and reporting results of these checks to supervisor. d) Responsible for performing regularly scheduled preventative maintenance such as changing light bulbs, filters, etc. e) Responsible for reporting to supervisor any malfunctions of building or equipment or other maintenance related concerns. 2. Maintains the cleanliness and professional appearance of our facilities by: a) Responsible for keeping Germantown facility parking areas/entrances cleaned and free of debris/leaves/trash on a daily basis. b) Ensuring that hallways are free and clear of stored items, trash, stock room boxes, etc. and that fire exits are not blocked. 3. Assists with building security, including opening up of Germantown Rd facility buildings when called upon. Lock and unlock the building on Germantown as needed and to respond to all PM Alarm calls as needed. This may include filling in for other staff during leave. 4. Provides a positive response to the concerns and needs of the occupants and quality of programs. 6. Responsible for keeping all stock rooms/areas stocked with appropriate supplies such as paper towels, gloves, soap, hand sanitizer, plastic ware, cups, etc. 7. Process necessary paperwork, such as work orders in a timely manner. 8. Attend and participate in outside or in-house activities, meetings, organizations, etc., as approved or directed by supervisor. This includes helping setup and tear down for fundraising events which may be outside of normal working hours. 9. Other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications: |
JOB REQUIREMENTS: • High school diploma/GED required and must be at least 18 years old. • Two-year technical certification or associate degree in a maintenance related field is preferred • At least one-year verifiable experience in a maintenance or construction related field. Experience in a school/institutional environment is helpful but not required. • Skills and aptitude in building maintenance and maintenance procedures including painting, drywall repair, basic carpentry, minor HVAC, minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. • Must be able to safely operate power hand tools and equipment. • Must be able to safely work at varying heights throughout the facility, utilizing ladders and scaffolds and working on the roof. This includes knowledge of related ladder safety procedures. • Must have valid Driver License and clean MVR. This person may be required to drive a van to the various facilities. • Must have basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, email, internet operation • Must be able to follow company outlined procedures and specific assignments related to work orders as assigned. • Must be able to follow-through on assignments in a timely, efficient and safe manner. • Must be flexible to assist with special events, work overtime as needed and help out in other departments upon request. • Must have good interpersonal skills as it relates to providing positive, courteous service to the various staff and management of the agency, always presenting a positive image of the company in professional interactions both within the agency and in working with volunteers, visitors, contractors, etc. PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Health must be adequate to allow for efficient accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities. Physical examination and TB skin test is required. Must be able to demonstrate safe lifting capability for 50 pounds on a regular basis and be able to operate lifting mechanisms for heavier loads. This position requires regular heavy lifting, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, working on knees and operation of power tools which may vibrate the hands and arms.
