As a Summer Camp Counselor, you will support the Camp Director in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children. Your role includes supervising daily activities, ensuring the well-being of campers, and fostering a positive camp experience. Additionally, you will participate in scheduled meetings, in-service training, and perform other related tasks as needed. Join us in making this summer unforgettable for our campers!
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or have GED. Preference will be given to a graduate of a two-year course in child development or CDA certification.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have good understanding of child development, must complete required staff development training.
- Physical condition must be such that it allows for quick movement and the ability to lift and position young children.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and with assistance over 25 pounds.
- Prior to employment, you must complete the required physical examination and TB Skin Test.
- Must have proof of USA citizenship.
Physical Requirements:
To perform this job the individual must be able to carry out all essential functions without risking the safety of the children or endangering the staff person’s own health/safety. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the job.
The following are considered essential functions of the job:
- Observe, see, hear and respond to children’s needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur in the center or on the playground.
- To regularly be able to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to a waist high level.
- To react quickly to any situation that may require the staff person to reach a child 20-30 feet away within 30 seconds.
- Ability to crouch to a child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, bend at the waist and frequently get down onto the floor, sit on the floor and move around the floor with children during activities. (up to 75% of the time)
- Be able to reach overhead to utilize equipment and to access items that must be placed out of children’s reach.
- Be able to mentally and emotionally handle the responsibilities of the job, and the routine stress often associated with providing care to infants/toddlers and children with special needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of a variety of daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children served.
- Assist in maintaining documentation as directed.
- Follow positive discipline procedures as directed.
- Assist in maintaining equipment and toys.
- Assist in maintaining the classroom and materials in a clean, safe, organized and accessible order.
- Follow confidentiality standards regarding students and their families.
- Refer parent contacts, questions, and comments to the Camp Director.
- To Adhere to the Personnel Policies.
- Treat children, parents, and staff with respect.
- Maintain a harmonious working relationship.
- Other duties as assigned by Camp Director.
