Job Overview

This entry-level position focuses on drafting and engineering support duties. The Electrical Engineering Drafter plays a key role in creating accurate blueprints to guide the construction and installation of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role involves structured assignments under the guidance of a supervisor or more experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities :

Perform field observations and update as-built drawings based on field edits.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, and other technical information.

Prepare detailed engineering drawings, maps, and graphs using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Clearly indicate revisions and organize files according to standard procedures.

Draft solicitation documents using established templates to support procurement and contract activities.

Conduct field and office research using historical engineering drawings, equipment databases, and other technical records to design equipment layouts and produce facility statistics.

Prepare basic specifications, material lists, and fixed capital unit (FCU) documentation.

Assist in setting up work orders and requisition entries.

Perform data entry in departmental engineering databases.

Prepare reports related to projects, equipment, and budgets, and assist with more complex reports.

Operate office equipment such as plotters, printers, copiers, and scanners.

Minimum Qualifications :

At least 1 year of experience interpreting technical drawings / documents and performing technical analysis or drafting using CAD software.

A degree in computer-aided design or a related field may substitute for certain experience requirements, per LCRA guidelines.

Must hold a valid driver's license for independent travel to locations such as substations, power plants, or water systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of :

Engineering principles and CAD standards / techniques.

Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) and work management systems.

Skills in :

Computer-aided drafting and reading / interpreting technical diagrams.

Problem-solving and verbal / written communication.

Operating office equipment, including plotters, printers, and scanners.

Analyzing and solving technical problems.

Abilities :

Perform accurate data entry and work in a team environment.

Work Environment :

Office, industrial, electrical substation, and / or plant environments.

Exposure to noise and various / extreme weather conditions.

Physical Demands :

Frequent hand / finger manipulation using a keyboard and mouse.

Occasional climbing, crawling, and crouching for field duties (less than 20%).

Standing and walking during field duties (less than 20%).

Day-to-Day Responsibilities :

Convert engineers' designs into technical drawings using AutoCAD.

Ensure drawings comply with safety codes, regulations, and standards.
