Location: Currently Oconomowoc, WI, moving to Brookfield, WI in 2025
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Days
Travel: Minimal, approximately 5 percent

What You’ll Do:
As a Microbiologist on our Lab Services team, you will provide assistance with food safety and quality for Silgan Containers and our customers by:
- Conducting Spoilage Investigations: Examine food products and packaging to identify causes of spoilage, perform commercial sterility verifications, and provide guidance to our manufacturing facilities and customers.
- Preparing Media and Cultures: Conduct microbiological testing by preparing necessary media and cultures, using microscopes and other tools for precise testing and evaluation.
- Documenting Findings: Produce thorough, clear, and concise technical reports, communicating results effectively to various departments and customers.
- Enhancing Product Development: Participate in testing the integrity of new containers and components through biotesting, ensuring they meet safety and quality standards.
- Upholding Laboratory Standards: Manage laboratory supplies, maintain equipment, and uphold a safe work environment by following established safety protocols.
- Staying Informed on Industry Trends: Keep current with developments in food microbiology through literature reviews and participation in scientific groups to ensure best practices.
We Need You to Have:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- Experience: 3 or more years in food microbiology preferred, ideally with laboratory experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, Word, and Excel, for reporting and data management.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills for documentation and cross-departmental communication.
- Work Environment Requirements: Ability to work seated or standing for extended periods, with occasional exposure to lab chemicals and biohazards.
