While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.
Physical Demands
This role is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Perform preventative maintenance on canning machinery (e.g., fillers, sealers, conveyors).
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions in canning equipment.
- Conduct major overhauls and rebuilds of canning machinery as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production line stoppages caused by equipment malfunctions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Perform regular safety inspections of equipment.
- Optimize the performance of canning machinery to maximize production efficiency.
- Contribute to maintaining high product quality by ensuring proper equipment function and minimizing product damage.
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills, including experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC systems.
- Proven experience in maintaining and repairing food processing equipment, preferably in a canning environment.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems effectively and efficiently.
- Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

- Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures related to operating and maintaining machinery.

- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve problems related to equipment malfunction, production bottlenecks, and quality issues.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, including production line workers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
- Communication: Effective communication skills to report equipment issues, request assistance, and share information with colleagues.

Education and Experience
- 1-3 years’ experience working as a machinist in canneries, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a food processing plant, particularly in a canning operation, is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality control procedures is advantageous.
- Previous experience in Seafood or Manufacturing preferred.
