What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Supervisor position at Silver Bay Seafoods?
As the Sanitation Supervisor, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities responsible for overseeing all aspects of sanitation within the plant, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and HACCP principles. You'll be responsible for leading your team, ensuring regulatory compliance with AKOSH, OSHA, FDA, and USDA, and implementing best practices to maintain the highest levels of sanitation according to HACCP guidelines.
Essential Functions / Qualifications
The responsibilities of the position include the following :
- Oversee and manage a sanitation team, providing clear instructions, fostering a positive environment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols established by AKOSH and OSHA.
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive sanitation programs that comply with AKOSH, OSHA, FDA, and USDA regulations to maintain exceptional cleanliness throughout the facility.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, work areas, and processing lines, identifying, and addressing sanitation concerns promptly.
- Train sanitation staff on proper cleaning procedures, the safe use of sanitation chemicals in accordance with AKOSH and OSHA regulations and maintaining a hygienic work environment.
- Maintain accurate sanitation records, including chemical usage logs, cleaning schedules, and inspection reports, to ensure compliance with AKOSH, OSHA, FDA, and USDA regulations.
- Stay up to date on all federal, state, and local sanitation regulations applicable to the seafood processing industry, including those established by AKOSH, OSHA, FDA, and USDA.
- Collaborate with production and Quality Assurance teams to seamlessly integrate sanitation practices within the production process, ensuring adherence to HACCP guidelines.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement new sanitation techniques and technologies to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with AKOSH, OSHA, FDA, and USDA regulations.
- Perform hands-on cleaning tasks as needed to ensure a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and / or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.
Physical Demands
While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Travel across Silver Bay locations will be required, some of which are in remote areas of Alaska. While onsite at Silver Bay production locations, the employee will be working in a loud, wet, and noisy seafood processing plant environment. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
