White Water - Aquatics, Team Lead (Seasonal, 2025)

Job Summary:

The Aquatics Team Lead is responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating activities of all Lifeguards by performing the following duties.

This position starts 04/12/2025 and ends 09/01/2025.

Must be at least 16 years of age

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Approximately 110-120 lifeguards are employed within the division. This role supports those lifeguards by carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including:

• Interviewing, hiring, and training employees
• Planning, assigning, and directing work
• Appraising performance; Rewards and disciplines employees.
• Address complaints and resolves workplace and/or guest issues.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and rotations, and expedites workflow.
• Ensures all pools and rides are in safe working condition with daily inspections. Operates radio, telephone, computer, and other equipment as needed.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve the efficiency of subordinates.
• Assistance to WW leadership team with daily operating duties as required. Performs the work of subordinates as needed. 
• Adjusts errors and complaints.
• Continuously observing swimmers to ensure their safety; Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
• Maintains order in swimming areas by ensuring guests follow all posted signage, park rules, and safety information.
• Maintains work area(s) for cleanliness. Ensures ride tubes and/or mats and life jackets are available for guests’ use.
• Provides swimming instructions to guests to ensure a safe environment is preserved.
• Adheres to daily rotation schedule.
• Responds promptly to customer needs; Responds to requests for service and assistance.
• Balances team and individual responsibilities.
• Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views.
• Contributes to building a positive team spirit by putting the success of the team above own interests.
• Supports everyone's efforts to succeed; Recognizes accomplishments of other team members.
• Adapts to changes in the work environment.

• Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
• Ensures guests follow posted safety guidelines.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must feel comfortable in the water
• Complete ride training for technical proficiency
• Able to communicate efficiently

Education and Experience:

• Ellis and Associates Lifeguarding experience is preferred
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience is required

Certification and Licensure:

Must be able to obtain at a minimum, a Jeff Ellis & Associates Special Facilities License. Pre-requisite skills for the training are as follows: 

• Swim 200 yards using the front crawl (freestyle) or breaststroke without stopping
• Tread water in a pool depth of 6 feet for two minutes without using your arms or hands
• Retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 6 feet of water and swim underwater for 10 feet

Must be able to obtain the American Heart Association Basic Lifesaving Certification

Physical Requirements:

• The ability to lfft and/or move 15 pounds frequently to 50 pounds maximum.
• The ability to stand and walk on uneven terrain, inclines, asphalt, and concrete continuously.

• The ability to frequently wear personal protective gear to include sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and appropriate footwear.
• The ability to remember locations, understand and carry out instructions continuously.
• The ability to work at a rapid speed frequently.

Work Environment:

An Aquatics Team Lead works primarily outdoors inside a water park environment, with occasional indoor tasks in office spaces or communal rooms. The role involves exposure to various weather conditions, uneven terrain, and moderate to high noise levels, often working independently. Team Leads use a variety of tools including whistles, radios, and hand gestures to communicate and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Work includes collaboration with teams and mentors, with a focus on ensuring safety in the guest experience.
