Position overview:
The position of Laborer/Equipment Operator/Torch Cutter is responsible to examine metal to ensure proper size specifications. Operate an oxy-propane torch for cutting metal to appropriate size. Responsible for cleaning, storage and maintaining assigned PPE and equipment. This position will be crossed trained in operating heavy equipment. Operating knowledge of excavator, backhoe, crane loader, skid loader, and forklift preferred.
Hours worked: Monday-Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm with OT.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Must have some operating knowledge of material handling equipment (front loader, skid steer, and forklift)
- Torch and cut scrap metal of various sizes to specified dimensions using an oxygen/natural gas torch
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections to ensure equipment is in good working order
- Wear and maintain the proper personal protective equipment supplied for the job; respirator, face mask
- Daily interaction with field and management personnel
- Adherence with company safety and environmental standards
- Assisting with yard/facility clean-up and maintenance
- Maintain a safe torching environment that is conducive to fire control
- Must be available to work overtime to include arriving early, staying late and Saturdays when needed
Qualifications:
- Previously operated equipment, skid, steer, forklift, front end loader preferred.
- Previous torching activity in processing scrap preferred
- Knowledge of equipment function and proper usage technique: oxy-propane gas assembly, 4’-5’-6’ torches, safety functions & procedures
- Previous experience with the proper use of PPE: respirators, face shields
- Ability to work with limited supervision in a timely and efficient manner, in a team-based environment and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working outdoors.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred High school diploma or equivalent, but not necessary.
- Knowledge of metals is preferred but will train the right person
- Must have some forklift, bobcat, and/or front loader experience * Skills

- Dependable, mature attitude.
Physical requirements:
The physical requirements for this position are sitting, standing, bending, and/or twisting for long periods of time. May be required to do some lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
