Job Summary

The Investigator & Deputy Title IX Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management and support of legal compliance, including, but not limited to, compliance with Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, relevant state law, and University policies.

This individual will be responsible for complex investigations resulting from claims of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation, and other types of claims, made by students, faculty or staff, as well as facilitating support for impacted individuals. The position will require collaboration with various stakeholders across the University.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

• Conducting sensitive and confidential investigations; interviewing students, employees, and other witnesses; and ensuring a prompt, thorough, and impartial process.
• Identifying and gathering evidence and maintaining accurate, confidential and thorough records.
• Drafting comprehensive investigative reports that clearly identify the critical facts for review, analysis, and provide recommendations, as appropriate.
• Assisting with the maintenance of a case management database to organize, manage, and track matters.
• Conducting outreach as needed, facilitating supports, and providing resource referrals to students, faculty, and staff involved in investigations and/or workplace concerns.
• Developing and facilitating trainings for faculty, staff, and students regarding the University's non-discrimination policies, including the University's Sexual Harassment Policy, Sex Discrimination Policy, and Section 504 Grievance Process.
• Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of educational materials, including web-based materials, that inform members of the University community of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and other related rights and responsibilities.
• Identifying and integrating best practices in the investigation arena into knowledge base and practice by participating in conferences and workshops.
• Remaining knowledgeable of current state and federal law and regulations and trends in the field of education related to discriminatory practices.
• All other tasks and work that are assigned in support of the Office of the General Counsel and the Office's work.
  
  

QUALIFICAITONS

• Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctorate strongly preferred, or other advanced degree in related field, i.e. law enforcement, criminology, social work, and psychology.
• A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience managing investigations relating to behavior, misconduct, and other types of unlawful conduct involving students, faculty, and staff in higher education.
• Knowledge of complexities surrounding sexual harassment and sex discrimination matters in a college setting, including experience conducting such investigations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
• An understanding of federal and state civil rights laws and regulations and an understanding of Office for Civil Rights and other guidance.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to take initiative and independently organize, prioritize, and carry out detailed work under time constraints.
• Proven analytical, research, and investigatory skills.
• Ability to maintain neutrality and establish credibility in situations involving interpersonal conflict.

• This is a part-time position at 15 hours per week.
