The Simon Kenton Council is delivering the Scouting program to over 11,000 youth annually in 19 counties in Central & Southern Ohio, and Northern Kentucky. We are the nation’s premier youth development program helping young people grow in character, leadership, citizenship, and conservation. The Simon Kenton Council is one of 250 councils in the United States, and one of the largest. We achieve our goals with the help of 350 partner organizations and 4,400 trained adult volunteers.


Position Summary and Objective:

The Events Coordinator will lead the planning and execution of all events for the Council. They are responsible for the project management, vendor relations and goal tracking of three signature fundraising events and multiple smaller council and district level events. Balancing strong organization skills and a customer service approach, the Events Coordinator will be metric driven as they help grow the Council's events to new levels. This is a new role that reports to the Chief Development Officer and is a major contributor to a growing team.


Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Understand and define the objectives, expectations, and goals of all of the events for the Simon Kenton Council.  
  • Set timelines for all aspects of each event, ensuring that vendors, staff and volunteers meet necessary deadlines.
  • Communicate with all staff involved in the planning process the event plan, managing deadlines and deliverables 
  • Working with the Development team, manage event income and expenses to maximize net revenue for sustainable programming.
  • Working with the Marketing team, develop cohesive and inspiring event themes, ensure communications are effective for the audience and all collateral is produced on time.
  • Effectively source and manage vendors. Identify and secure appropriate venues.
  • Define roles clearly for event staff/ volunteers. Recruit, train and oversee the staff and volunteers needed for each event.
  • Be the day of point of contact for all events, performing inspections on the day of the event for the layout as well as ensuring all technology and production needs are met. 
  • Lead event debriefs, evaluating the event effectiveness, benefit to the Council and making suggestions for improvements


Desired Traits and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year event management experience, 3 years preferred.
  • Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.      
  • Collaborative and like to work in a dynamic, small-team environment
  • Ability to cultivate and manage relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors and event attendees
  • Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects while working under deadlines during peak times of the year, showing initiative and communicating regularly and succinctly with managers and partners
  • Critical and strategic-thinking qualities, sound judgment, flexibility, and creative problem-solving is essential
  • Ability to stay calm under very stressful situations and approaching deadlines
  • Demonstrated mastery in the entire Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in Blackbaud CRM software is a plus.


Compensation: 


All BSA councils are equal opportunity employers. Salary will be commensurate with experience with a salary range of $45,000 to $55,000. Additionally, the Simon Kenton Council offers benefits to include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life-insurance, short and long-term disability, accidental death, a Match Savings program, and is eligible for vacation immediately upon hire.
