In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.
The Director of Field Education - East Division will oversee and manage educational initiatives throughout New York City and Long Island, ensuring alignment with the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) and Museum of Tolerance (MOT) mission to combat hate, promote empathy, and foster understanding through impactful programming.
This role emphasizes strategic leadership, programmatic growth, and operational excellence, overseeing key initiatives such as the Combat Hate Fellowship, Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT), and the Next Generation Leaders Internship Program. A significant focus of the position (30%) involves working closely with the Content and Learning team to develop, pilot, and evaluate culturally responsive curricula. The Director will also lead stakeholder engagement, mentor staff, and ensure the successful execution of grant deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Program Development and Management
- Design, oversee, and implement field education programs tailored to the needs of the Eastern Division, including Combat Hate and MMOT initiatives in New York City and Long Island.
- Scale and grow key programs in alignment with grant deliverables and organizational goals.
- Lead the development of new initiatives, including the Combat Hate Fellowship and Next Generation Leaders Internship Program, ensuring their successful execution and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Content and Learning team to develop and evaluate reflexive and culturally responsive curricula, gathering feedback to refine and enhance program content.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure effectiveness, continuous improvement, and alignment with community expectations.
Leadership and Team Development
- Mentor and manage a diverse team of program staff, including MMOT Education Associates and Combat Hate in-classroom facilitators.
- Provide professional development opportunities to ensure staff alignment with organizational standards and goals.
- Lead onboarding and training of new employees, ensuring smooth integration into the team.
- Act as a mentor and collaborator to other regional program managers, fostering a culture of shared learning, support, and innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community partners, educators, and organizational leaders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Combat Hate, MMOT, and other field education-related initiatives. Collaborate with local schools, nonprofits, corporations, and community organizations to expand programmatic reach and impact.
- Represent the Eastern Division at conferences, advisory boards, and other academic and professional forums to promote SWC/MOT’s educational mission.

- Oversee the piloting, testing, and evaluation of new educational materials and program models in the field.
- Identify and implement strategies for program growth and audience engagement, ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative technologies and immersive learning experiences.
Compliance, Reporting, and Grant Management
- Ensure all programs adhere to relevant policies, regulations, and quality standards.
- Oversee grant compliance, budget management, and funding requirements for programs under the Eastern Division.
- Prepare and present regular reports on program performance, impact, and progress toward grant deliverables to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in education, nonprofit management, or related fields, with a focus on managing teams and delivering measurable outcomes.
- Proven success in program development, including planning, implementing, and scaling educational initiatives.
- Experience in culturally responsive curriculum design and program evaluation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build partnerships and foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated expertise in grant management, compliance, and budget oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with virtual and hybrid learning technologies, including tools like Zoom and Canvas.
