Quanta Magazine is seeking an intern to assist the audience engagement team. The audience team connects Quanta’s award-winning science journalism with the public through digital distribution platforms including newsletters, podcasts, social media, and YouTube.
As the Analytics and Outreach Intern, you will support the audience team’s efforts to assess content performance and user trends to help guide audience development strategy. You will also perform tasks related to processing input from Quanta’s large audience. This position will report to the Senior Editor for Audience Engagement.
The Analytics and Outreach Intern will work onsite in our offices in New York City. The expected schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This temporary internship is expected to run from May 27 until August 14.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Categorize and label archival social media posts using to a provided key of post types. This requires using social media scheduling software and learning about each category of post.
- Sort and label audience input for responses in the general contact inbox using a provided key.
- Gather and share performance data for social media posts in an internal spreadsheet.
- Sort and ship merchandise for audience giveaways.
- Assist the Audience team with additional tasks and projects as requested.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) is required.
- Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, X, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook.
- Demonstrated ability and affinity for reading comprehension and critical thinking.
- Intellectual curiosity and interest in science and/or mathematics.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to the responsibilities of the team.
