Summary
This role supports the Agronomic Sciences Team to perform routine greenhouse activities at Simplot Plant Sciences, where the goal is to genetically improve potato and other crops through biotechnology and breeding. Requires a highly motivated individual to work in conjunction with R&D scientists to assist in the greenhouse with plant growth and optimization, and to record and report greenhouse research trial data. The candidate would preferably have a genuine interest and experience in horticulture and/or applied agricultural science, with a grasp of fundamental horticultural practices such as integrated pest management, propagation, and irrigation. He/she must demonstrate the ability to work in a multi- disciplinary team and independently, communicate effectively, and actively participate in discussions and meetings. Requires working some weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in routine greenhouse operations such as irrigating, integrated pest management, pollinating, and greenhouse sanitation
Enter, QC, and summarize data using basic computer skills
Participate in all facets of greenhouse project management including logistics, planning, coordination, and inventory management
Ability to troubleshoot, optimize and validate greenhouse assays and procedures
Become proficient with Biotechnology Quality Management Systems (BQMS) and other in-house quality management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and the tracking and containment of regulated material
Typical Education
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Familiarity with field testing, data analysis and data reporting
Ability to troubleshoot, optimize and validate agronomic/greenhouse assays and procedures
Ability to work within and enjoy a team-based environment
Ability to use agronomic methodologies/instruments or willingness to be trained in their use
Ability to use agronomic methodologies/instruments/equipment or willingness to be trained in their use
Valid Idaho driver’s license and willingness to occasionally travel and work off-site. Applicant must be able to lift 40 pounds
Applicant must be willing and able to obtain an Idaho Private Pesticide Applicator's License and Idaho Chemigation License within 6 months of hire
