The Communications and Business Development Writer works as part of the Communications and broader Business Development team to help raise the profile of the Firm, its practices and lawyers through compelling and strategic content creation. This includes crafting high-impact narratives that showcase the Firm’s achievements and thought leadership across multiple formats and platforms, to include awards submissions, related talking points, newsletters, web and other content. This role involves research, analysis and execution of strategies concerning communications, recognition and media opportunities, including awards series, social media, media outreach and thought leadership campaigns, and other Communications-related channels, and related work product, ensuring the Firm’s high standard of excellence is met.

Responsibilities

  • Together with the Director of Communications and broader BD Department, the Communications and Business Development Writer helps to identify and strategically evaluate opportunities and develops narratives and compelling content to position and raise the profile of the practice and partners through accolades, and thought leadership
  • Working with key Firm stakeholders, conducts research and analytical analysis to identify potential matters / subjects for potential submission for various legal and business publication award series
  • Develop narratives and compelling content based on technical information for award submissions and survey responses for various legal and business publications
  • Liaise with publications to understand methodology and submission guidelines and use that information to develop and enhance processes to showcase the Firm’s leadership and achievements across practices, offices and key strategic initiatives
  • Assist with the development of website content, including practice area pages, industry pages and partner biographies to reflect the Firm’s prominence
  • Assist in executing strategies related to media outreach and thought leadership campaigns
  • Assist in developing content for LinkedIn/other relevant social media platforms
  • Assist in the oversight and creation of advertising, posters, flyers and other promotional materials, working with Graphic Design team and outside vendors where appropriate
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Business Development and Communications materials, including brochures, practice area descriptions and other content
  • Support Business Development projects and other Firm initiatives as needed
  • Perform various business and operational support functions related to Communications and Business Development strategies, policies, procedures and initiatives

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Major in Communications, English, Marketing, Advertising or related field preferred

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
  • Must be flexible and willing to work additional hours as needed
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly competitive and demanding environment
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to discern and develop narrative based on technical information
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance competing demands and manage multiple projects concurrently, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment
  • Ability to interact well and build professional relationships with key stakeholders while maintaining a high level of customer service, diplomacy and discretion
  • Ability to assess needs and priorities, and help develop strategies and make recommendations when presented with ambiguous or incomplete information
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills to make sound decisions, escalating as appropriate
  • Ability to effectively share knowledge and resources with appropriate parties, both internally and externally
  • Ability to anticipate business challenges of Partners and Senior team members and proactively address needs with self-assuredness and business acumen
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and web-based research
  • Prior experience researching and creating content on complex legal or financial topics preferred, legal journalism experience a plus
  • Prior experience developing awards submissions, or in marketing and business development field, at a law firm preferred
  • Some familiarity with Content Pilot’s suite of products or other experience database preferred
  • Experience with website maintenance and or Client Relationship Management (CRM) system experience

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
