The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Outpatient Retail Pharmacist in the filling of medications, transcribing of prescriptions, and clarifying with prior authorizations. The technician will interact directly with patients at the window and be responsible for taking phone calls. Technicians must act professionally and be courteous at all times. It is expected the technician will complete his or her tasks in a timely manner to meet the demands of the pharmacy. The technician must be familiar with HIPAA compliance and handling of private medical information.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS :
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS :
Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required.
If license was issued after 1 / 1 / 2008, Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is required with two years of licensure. Once certified, active certification must be maintained.
All new pharmacy technicians must be educated and trained using a standard nationally accredited education and training program, such as those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) / the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), or have equivalent work experience of 500 hours as a pharmacy technician prior to employment.
