The Clinical Supported Education Counselor for Accessibility Services position exists to create, coordinate, evaluate and adapt educational support services to the individual and generic needs of students who have a severe mental disability. This position serves as a resource to college faculty and staff in responding to the unique needs of this population group in general and on occasions when disabling conditions may block the successful functioning of the individual and/or the college. The Clinical Supported Education Counselor is the primary resource to the college for managing student behavioral problems and for crisis intervention. This position exists to explore untested pathways to educational/vocational success for an at-risk group which has traditionally been blocked from participation in the mainstream community.
This position is grant-funded and dependent on funding of the grant. The salary for this position begins at $57,344.00 and is determined commensurate with education and experience.

Principal Accountabilities
- Assess student needs through psychosocial education assessment and PHQ-9 assessment
- Provide ongoing supported education and personal counseling to students with mental health disabilities
- Review and interpret confidential medical, psychological and academic reports about individual students’ disabilities, and translate this information into specific functional limitations within a college setting
- Determine and arrange support services and referral for each student
- Identify adapted educational methods and equipment that will meet each student’s needs
- Ensure that each student has a full understanding of their own disability, and how it will impact them in dealing with all aspects of the Sinclair system, including advising on appropriate course load, career options, and time management
- Teach students to independently secure necessary accommodations throughout the Sinclair system, including effective self-advocacy and training in use of adaptive equipment
- Monitor student progress as needed serving as advocate and troubleshooter when problems arise
- Work with individual faculty regarding academic concerns about students with disabilities to determine alternative methods of testing and instruction
- Provide workshops and information for secondary personnel, students, parents, faculty and staff to promote awareness of various disabling conditions and knowledge of available services
- Provide referrals students needing internal and external resources, i.e., community mental health resources: Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Access Center for Independent Living, Community Services for the Deaf, Project Mobility, Goodwill Industries, and other community-based specialized agencies.
- Refer students based on individual needs
- Offer ongoing support, guidance, and crisis intervention as appropriate to students with mental health disabilities registered with Accessibility Services
- Provide referral for case management services in conjunction with the CARE Team case manager in a concise and expedient manner to ensure that students, faculty, and staff are informed
- Other duties as assigned or as the need is apparent
Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s degree in counseling or social work required
- Minimum of three years of professional counseling experience required
- State licensure in the State of Ohio as a licensed professional counselor or as independently licensed social worker due to the diagnostic, supervisory, and external professional relationships required
- Experience in recognizing mental illness symptoms to facilitate appropriate community-based services required
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate with a wide range of student, faculty, staff, and professional relationships preferred
- Must be a current Sinclair Community College employee
- Strong knowledge about and effective in employing evaluative, research, and assessment techniques to shape program activities appropriately required
- Must be knowledgeable about and participate effectively in shaping the evolving delivery of educational and student service supports
- Strong customer service and/or student advocacy as demonstrated through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success required
- Must have the desire and ability to engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported required
- Goes beyond the first or simplest response to a customer, working to identify the root cause of the problem, question, or issue to resolve it efficiently and professionally, required
