The Program Technician position exists to provide support for Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) initiatives within the college. The position assists with technical UAS related activities including systems integration, additive manufacturing design and prototyping, Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machining, testing and applied research operations, and flight operations. The position works for the Program Manager for Operations, Unmanned Aerial Systems. The position supports identification and utilization of technical hardware and software required for training and education, applied research and development, commercialization, and operational activities. The Program Technician assists with UAS operations by serving as a member of the crew as an ancillary crewmember, observer, or pilot-in-command depending on mission needs and individual qualifications. They also assist in UAS Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach and education programs.

Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure the safe and effective operation of program hardware, including UAS, ground support equipment, and supporting systems
- Support flight operations and client engagements
- Support education and training efforts, including UAS focused Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) campus and other initiatives
- Support systems integration and testing to facilitate applied UAS research and commercialization efforts including subtractive and additive manufacturing and CNC machining efforts related to rapid prototyping and small batch part production
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager for Operations, Unmanned Aerial Systems.
Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in related area of study is preferred
- UAS operational flight experience on a variety of small UAS is required; Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) authorized training certifications preferred
- Experience with UAS related modeling and simulation, mission planning, and data analytics software products is required
- Familiarity with consumer and professional grade additive manufacturing (3D printing) equipment, with the ability to program and operate them is preferred
- Experience with operational and experimental tools including wind tunnels, engine test stands, avionics, sensors, and other UAS related resources is preferred
- Familiarity with computer numerical control (CNC) machines (lathes and mills), with the ability to program and operate them is preferred
- Ability to work well as part of a team and individually with limited oversight is required
- Strong PC skills, including standard office tools and industry specific software packages
- Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills, including experience in preparing and delivering reports and presentations is required
- Ability to read, research, and comprehend technical and regulatory documents
- Demonstrated experience supporting a wide variety of technical and operations projects
- Holds and maintains a current Remote Pilot Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- Traditional flight experience with Private Pilot Certificate or advanced ratings is preferred
- Current or ability to obtain a FAA Second Class Medical is preferred
- U.S. Citizenship is preferred
- U.S. Passport is preferred
