This position is onsite in Torrance, CA.
We are seeking someone with experience with manual paint process in automotive or manual assembly experience in automotive.
Position Summary
Under direct leadership, the Manufacturing Engineer II or III is responsible for the creation of standard work by creating, clarifying, and sharing information about the most efficient method to perform a task in a manner that demonstrates, "Everything is Important."
This is a dynamic position that requires the ability to create and manage project timelines while driving improvement in all areas with a focus on safety, quality, cost, and delivery with some guidance from management. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be a major contributor in defining manufacturing planning templates, own process definition, quality standards and cost reduction initiatives. You will also be responsible for creating lean part flow through production resources and implementing these resources in a new facility.
Essential Functions
- With direction from Engineering Leadership, defines and implements general assembly inline or end-of-line vehicle process requirements in collaboration with vehicle design, software, and integration teams in preparation for new product launches
- With direction form Engineering Leadership, identifies, plans, and executes capital equipment, machine, and layout upgrades to meet production demand
- Leads prototype builds and vehicle commissioning in vehicle testing
- Implements process improvement methodologies and tools (e.g., value stream mapping, problem solving, visual management, etc.) to reduce manufacturing build hours and quality issues, increase production rates, and remove waste from processes across multiple departments
- Effectively manages and balances safety, quality, throughput, cost, and people to provide maximum value to the customer and the company
- Reviews work performed by the Production team and/or external vendors, identifies service quality risks, and collaborates with Quality team to drive performance improvement initiatives both internally and externally
- Optimizes vehicle components and processes for manufacturing in collaboration with cross-functional teams considering KPIs such as quality, productivity, and capital expenditure
- Supports day-to-day production of the Singer Vehicles and components together with technicians, quality, and supply chain
- Analyzes and dispositions manufacturing discrepancies and interfaces with the quality team on root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Establishes excellent cross-functional relationships with engineering, supplier quality, and manufacturing (Body-In-Black & General Assembly)
- Develops and maintains manufacture and test planning for processes, products, and integration
- Creates and manages manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
- Develops, educates, updates, and improves standards for items within assigned scope
- Creates and/or improves Preventative Maintenance plans for tools, tooling, shop aids, equipment, and facilities for resources within assigned scope
- Creates standards and inspection criteria for parts and products
- Perform PFMEAs for operations within assigned scope
- Leads investigations for process issues leading to test failures and ensure all issues are driven to resolution, including immediate mitigation and permanent solution
- Works in a cross-functional team environment as a strong team player and demonstrates the ability to work with other functional groups to achieve company-wide goals
- Assists in special projects as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities and Attributes
- Experience with developing, optimizing, and analyzing assembly and test processes
- Strong project management skills
- Experience driving cross-functional change within large organizations
- Experience bringing teams and processes from a development phase to full production
- Experience designing greenfield facility layouts and/or material flow strategy
- Strong mechanical intuition and extensive hands-on experience modifying jigs, fixtures, and coordinating equipment installations
- Proficient working with SQL, Excel, or similar data analysis software
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Jira
- Able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
- Possesses presentation skills and communicates clearly and professionally at various levels both inside and outside the company
- Effective written and verbal communications skills; ability to express ideas clearly and actively listen to others
- Team oriented, with a strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment to multiple deadlines
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently

Compensation
The starting salary range for this position is between $85,120 - 106,400. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
