Overview:
The Nurse Educator is a Registered
Nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of
enhancing the performance and professional development of healthcare
providers and their continuing competencies. The Nurse Educator is assigned
to the Director of Education and works in collaboration with their division
Nursing Vice President, Patient Care Managers and staff. The Nurse Educator will
develop and coordinate educational programs and materials specific for their
division of patient service. The Nurse Educator is responsible for
facilitating the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through
active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and
evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. The Nurse
Educator will participate in the development of formal and informal education
programs and activities in an effort to improve quality standards and
outcomes as well as staff performance expectations. The Nurse Educator serves
as a resource and educator to their division health care team on new
policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information. The Nurse
Educator is cognizant of current research in their division of nursing
practice and care delivery and facilitates the implementation of Evidence
Based Practice initiatives. The Nurse Educator actively participates in
outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining
relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Nurse Educator must be
willing to adjust their hours as needed or as assigned
(evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff.
The Nurse Educator performs utilizing the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Joint Commission Standards, National Evidence Based Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and the SRHS Department of Nursing Plan for the Provision of Care, Treatment and Services.

Education:
Graduate from NLN school of nursing. BSN or MSN preferred. Must
be willing to pursue a BSN or MSN degree within two (2) years of hire.
License:
Current Mississippi State RN licensure.
Certifications:
BCLS certification required; BCLS
instructor certification required within one (1) year of hire. Certification
and instructor certification specific to nursing division service such as
ACLS, PALS, or NRP must be achieved within one (1) year of hire. Obtain and
maintain certification from national organizations specific to the nursing
division in which he/she provides service preferred.
Experience:
Appropriate nursing practice/experience within the past five
years with previous teaching experience or recognized potential.

Physical Demands:
Stands, turns, bends, stoops,
lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day to day
activities. Visual acuity to observe staff performing patient assessment
data with the use of manual/automated devices for collecting and documenting
the data. Auditory acuity to hear patient and staff in verbal communication
and gather data using auscultory skills. Manual dexterity of hands and feet
to ambulate as needed during the shift and able to stand for extended
periods of time. Must have high energy level and be capable of handling high
pressure situations. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.
Mental Demands:
Keen mental faculties in assessment and decision making skills
in the education of staff for the management of acute and chronically ill
patients. Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give
information in person and by telephone. Emotional stability conducive to
dealing with high stress level association with the education of staff in
the care of acute patient/family situations and conditions. Demands
maintaining effective working relationships with peers, staff, managers,
vice presidents, physicians, and other healthcare workers.
Special Demands:
Job requires
traveling throughout the SRHS service area to provide education at the
division level on various units and in formal classroom settings - with the
employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have a valid driver
license.
