What You Need to Succeed in this Role
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related human service field. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.

Dental - Minnehaha County offers dental insurance through Delta Dental which covers 100% of diagnostic and preventative services.
Life Insurance - Minnehaha County provides a $15,000 basic life insurance policy for every full-time employee along with and additional $15,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefit. Additional term life insurance and AD&D may be purchased by employees for themselves and dependents through payroll deduction.
Retirement
Retirement Plan - Minnehaha County participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive a 6% match (8% for certified law enforcement). Other SDRS benefits include long term disability. Employees are vested after 3 years of continuous employment.
Deferred Compensation Plan - Employees may choose to save additional funds toward retirement on a pre-tax or after-tax (Roth IRA) basis through our supplemental retirement program.
Paid Time Off
Paid Time Off - approximately 128 hours (16 days) per year
Holiday Leave - 11 days per calendar year

How You Will Make an Impact
- Interview clients and provide assistance to include assessing individual needs and strengths, determining eligibility for assistance, adapting services to meet client needs and providing appropriate referrals to supportive programs/services to create a planned approach to optimize client growth and future success.
- Assist individuals/families in identifying, coordinating, and facilitating with potential supportive services options to create a planned approach to optimize their growth and future success. Assist applicant in obtaining requested documentation; follow- up on information provided by the applicant to clarify /verify information to determine eligibility (i.e. calling landlords, employers, utility companies, payees, medical staff, etc.). Process vouchers to expedite payment to vendors.
- Provide and assist clients with obtaining and completing required paperwork for employment, housing, medications, etc.
- Facilitate tenant and landlord communication to find creative solutions to promote the prevention of tenant eviction.
- Provide supportive, short-term case management via phone calls and in-person appointments to promote ongoing stability and successful trajectories for applicants.
- Complete and maintain daily case records documenting services provided to address identified individual needs.
Caseworker - Emergency Relief
What You Need to Succeed in this Role
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related human service field. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
- Apply de-escalation strategies in tense interview situations.
- Understand and follow written and verbal directions.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Understand and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other agencies, and the public.
- Work rotating "on call" schedule. Will be required to carry a cell phone to be available for work outside of regular schedule. Must be available to work at all times during the "on call" schedule and therefore must not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
- Demonstrate team participation and embrace a workplace philosophy that enriches staff's ability to reach goals and provide a high level of customer service.
- Maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
