About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on and motivated Biomedical Photonics Technician to join our Biomedical Integration Team. This role is ideal for a technician with relevant experience, or a recent graduate of a Photonics Certificate Program who is eager to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting. You will be working at the forefront of diagnostic innovation, helping to develop, run, and maintain silicon photonics-based diagnostic cartridges for use with clinical samples and multi-reader diagnostic rigs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, calibrate, and maintain silicon photonics diagnostic cartridges for biomedical applications.
- Operate and troubleshoot multi-reader rigs for clinical testing and data acquisition.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and bioengineering groups to integrate photonic components into functional diagnostic systems.
- Handle clinical samples with care, following biosafety and data integrity protocols.
- Conduct performance testing and quality control checks on optical cartridges and related instrumentation.
- Support data analysis efforts by providing accurate experimental data and maintaining clear documentation.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and iterative design improvements to optimize cartridge and system performance.
- Assist in the transition of prototypes to pilot-scale manufacturing and validation.
Qualifications
- Photonics Certificate or equivalent training in photonics, optics, or biomedical instrumentation.
- Familiarity with silicon photonics, optical alignment, fiber optics, and photonic sensor principles.
- Comfortable working in laboratory environments involving biological samples and clinical workflows.
- Experience using lab tools such as optical benches, microscopes, and diagnostic instrumentation.
- Basic programming or scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, and safety practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a startup-like, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Prior hands-on experience with silicon photonics platforms or biomedical diagnostics.
