Job Summary
The Field Mechanic is responsible for working on an active construction job site to diagnose and repair heavy equipment. This position requires a person who can work independently, is self-motivated under limited supervision, and manages limited downtime of the equipment.
Essential Functions
- A strong mechanical aptitude, the willingness to learn, a good work ethic, and a positive attitude.
- Diagnoses and repairs large heavy equipment on the job site and company vehicles.
- Performs preventative maintenance and large variety of repairs of heavy equipment.
- Reads and interprets vehicle condition reports and repair orders.
- Completes paperwork associated with repairs and inspections.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- 3-4 years’ experience on large heavy construction equipment
- Diesel, hydraulics, electrical & hydrostatic experience
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card
Preferred Education and Experience
- Mechanic degree or certificate.
- Certificate in electrical diagnostic.
- Welding/fabrication experience.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Physical Demands

- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, sitting and climbing for extended periods of time.
- Must frequently lift or move items 50 pounds or more
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work and walk on uneven terrain.

Position Type and Hours
This is a full-time position, 50-60 hours per week. Days and hours of work vary according to job. Occasional evening, weekend and overtime work may be required as job duties demand.
