JOB TITLE: Assitant / JH Coach
REPORTS TO: Activities Director
SUPERVISES: Students within the athletic program
WORKS WITH: Students, school staff, custodial & maintenance staff, teachers, parents, community members, and district administrators
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and prior coaching experience preferred. High school/college participation preferred. Teaching assignment in building preferred. Must complete all SDHSAA required coursework prior to first activity contact.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Activities Director, Head Coach, Building Principals
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Assists in the direction and coordination of interscholastic athletics in their school.
- Assistant Coach works in conjunction with Head Coach in determining athlete participation during practices and games, including playing time at the respective levels. The Junior High Coach plans practices, develops all athletes, determines player rotations, etc. within the junior high program.
- Positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and community.
- Operates within the policies of the District, conference, and the SDHSAA.
- Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches.
- Assists with fund-raising activities as needed.
- Attends all required coaching meetings, state, local, and rules meetings. Operates within the policies of the SDHSAA.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
