Groundskeeper / Outdoor Maintenance Technician

The role of the Groundskeeper / Outdoor Maintenance Technician is to provide general care and attention to the overall health, stability, and balance of the Motherhouse grounds and environment.
Some Essential Duties Include:
· Uphold the Sisters’ spirit of hospitality by maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for Sisters, staff, visitors, and guests to the property
o Maintain specific lawn/field areas, trails, fence lines, sidewalks, etc., for safety and aesthetic
o Monitor for and safely remove downed trees, branches, and litter using manual and power equipment
o Remove snow from and apply salt to designated areas during winter
o Install and remove signage for parking and wayfinding on specified event days
o Share on-call responsibilities (as needed)
· Steward creation on the grounds through responsible, sustainable practices
o Mow meadows on a rotating seasonal basis to promote plant diversity and minimize invasive plants
o Creatively reuse and upcycle materials to address repair and fabrication projects
o Identify opportunities to transition gas equipment to electric
· Maintain and improve appropriate care of resources
o Proactively repair, maintain, and document maintenance of tractors and all mechanical equipment
o Monitor, repair, and organize the barn, out-buildings, pavilions, sheds, salt bins, rainwater collectors, benches, outdoor art, etc.
o Inventory and care for all equipment and materials used on the grounds for its maintenance or for leisure
o Fabricate new items as needed for projects, events, programs, etc., held on the grounds
· Provide input on areas of the grounds and equipment that need attention/repair by an outside contractor and maintain ongoing communication between contractors and the Director of Ecology and Environment, as appropriate, for outsourced services such as:
o Tree service
o Waste removal
o Snow plowing and salt delivery
o Diesel fuel order
o Tractor or other vehicle repairs
· Collaborate with colleagues and Sisters on any other duties or projects as assigned that may arise through our pursuit to support the Sisters’ mission to serve God and the dear neighbor without distinction with a flexible, adaptable, and compassionate attitude
Education and Experience:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in outdoor maintenance
- Basic skills for operating and maintaining small lawn equipment
- Basic mechanical experience / knowledge
- Small engine / Diesel engine knowledge or repair
Preferred:
- Safety training certification for tractor operation
- Chemical safety training / certification
- Working carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical experience
Special Job Features:
- This job operates in an outdoor setting and in all types of weather.
- This role routinely uses hand tools and small equipment.
- Must have flexibility to accommodate snow removal as needed.
- Occasional weekend availability required as needed.
Candidates must pass criminal clearances and drug screen.
