About This Role:
This position works closely to provide direct personal and social support services, including assistance with transportation needs, relocation to appropriate care facilities, and social activities enrichment to the Sisters of the Holy Names living at Merrill Gardens, Saratoga Retirement Community and Cedar Creek Los Gatos.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides safe, friendly and reliable transportation services for Sisters to and from various medical facilities, shopping and for other needs as determined.
2. Assists Sisters in and out of vehicles, loading walkers and wheelchairs and utilizing the wheelchair lift as needed.
3. Fleet Vehicles: Performs scheduled maintenance of SNJM fleet vehicles, ensuring vehicles are fueled and cleaned. Coordinates smog checks for all fleet vehicles and ensures Disabled Person placards are valid.
4. Performs regular pre-trip inspection of vehicles. Ensures vehicles are safe for travel and immediately notifies supervisor of any concerns regarding vehicles.
5. Assists with weekly food/household shopping for Sisters and delivers supplies as needed.
6. Provides support for community events, including transportation, serving and assisting Sisters, including room set-up and purchasing of food, when necessary.
7. Assists with residential moves for the Sisters to include moving furniture, cleaning and interior upgrades as needed.
8. Maintain organization and cleanliness of designated storage areas in office and off-site storage unit. As appropriate, arranges for disposal and donation of excess items.
9. In coordination with the Director of Community Life/Activities, assist with planning field trips and other SNJM events including ordering rental vans, and other support as needed.
10. Transfer garbage/recycling containers from street back to office after weekly pick-up.
11. Occasional mail pick-up at post office.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Minimum three years work-related experience providing similar services to elderly or disabled population preferred. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills related to small events and activities.

- Ability to work patiently with Sisters who may have difficulty with hearing, mobility, eyesight, memory, etc.
- Ability to provide Sisters with transfer assistance to and from activities using SNJM Community vehicles.
- Must have a current, unrestricted driver’s license with verifiable excellent driving record.
- Must adhere to all SNJM safety and driving policies.
- Prefer at least one year of experience in the safe operation of car, passenger van, and minibus vehicles.
- Ability to work and drive in varied weather conditions and to read/comprehend maps and/or navigation systems.
- Must be able to work occasional weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND/OR WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Position requires both sedentary work in an office setting and travel/site visits to Sisters’ homes, residential and assisted living facilities and medical facilities.
· Must be able to safely and regularly push/pull boxes, furniture, or equipment. Ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs. regularly; up to 100 lbs. occasionally with the use of appropriate equipment.
· Use of safe body mechanics in all areas of responsibility.
· Must be able to assist Sisters with transportation and with getting into and out of vehicles, including bariatric Sisters.
· Requires ability to lift/maneuver wheelchairs, walkers and other medical equipment.
· Must be able to consistently, regularly and safely bend, squat, stretch and maneuver to assist in securing wheelchairs, motorized scooters and other medical equipment in vehicles.
· Must be able to sit for extended periods while driving vehicles.
HOURS: 40 hours per week, including occasional evening and/or weekend hours
PAY: $25 per hour
