- Determines WIC eligibility by identifying risk factors.
- Assesses nutritional needs and provides nutrition counseling and follow-up for eligible WIC clientele.
- Monitors client care follow-up and modifies plan of care as needed.
- Assesses the breastfeeding status of WIC participants and offers support and education.
- Determines the appropriateness of breastfeeding aids and issues according to policy.
- Completes required documentation in ROSIE as outlined in the Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual.
- Determines appropriate food packages and issues WIC benefits.
- Refers clients to appropriate social and community resources.
- Screens requests for prescribed non-contract medical nutritional and refers to the WIC RD.
- Screens for and initiates outgoing communications to medical professionals; refers to the WIC RD.
- Plans, conducts, and evaluates group and individual nutrition education classes.
- Participates in preparing and delivering nutrition education materials/aids.
- In conjunction with the Project Nutritionist, actively participates in training students and volunteers.
- Performs basic blood tests and takes height and weight measurements for women, infants, and children as needed.
- Assesses income, categorical, and residency eligibility and documents accordingly.
- Reads and follows all policies and procedures in the Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual and ROSIE User’s Guide.
- Completes all agency and State required trainings.
- Must qualify as a “Certified Competent Authority” under the Wisconsin WIC Program requirements (Registered Dietetic Technician, bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition or master’s degree in nutrition or public health nutrition).
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
- Ability to work effectively in Microsoft Office and other web-based applications.
- Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- One to two years' experience in WIC or maternal and child nutrition preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
