POSITION TITLE: Deputy Clerk II
SALARY RANGE : $38,324, not negotiable
The essential function of the position is to perform detailed clerical tasks for the Office of the Clerk of Court in the processing of appellate case files. The position works under the supervision of the Clerk of the Court and the Chief Deputy Clerk. On a routine basis, the Deputy Clerk II works professionally with the public, other Clerk's Office personnel, judges, attorneys, and other court employees.
Job Description: The position is responsible for accepting, scanning, and docketing court filings as necessary. Processing incoming and outgoing mail, as well as answering phones and handling inquiries and requests made in person, also comprise a portion of the duties of the position. Collecting, classifying, and formatting data and information are additional functions of the Deputy Clerk. Other duties will be assigned including creating new appeals and cases in the electronic case management system, issuing court orders, opinions, and mandates; and preparing, maintaining, and distributing oral argument and conference calendars. The position works under general supervision according to procedure, although independent thought and reasoning are required. Organization skills are required as the position demands effective prioritization of assigned tasks. Cross-training on the duties of other positions is required so that the qualified applicant can perform all essential duties assigned to him or her. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The Deputy Clerk must have the ability to communicate effectively via the written and spoken word. Computer skills are required as the Office of the Clerk of Court is computerized, and all attorney-related communications are conducted electronically. The competitive candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent inter-personal skills, have excellent computer skills, and possess the ability to work independently after training.
Education and Training Guidelines: Associate degree in law, paralegal, legal assistant, office skills or a closely related field and three years of related experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat is essential. Proficiency in Excel is a plus. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
