Job Summary
The Kitchen Assistant I has the primary responsibility for washing dishes, putting dishes away, keeping the Bistro and kitchen areas clean, assisting with the stocking of products and non-food items, assisting with the set up and cleaning of the Bistro and kitchen for opening and closing and completing other tasks as assigned. The Kitchen Assistant I is dedicated to providing quality service in a timely, courteous, and cost effective manner.
Essential Functions
Knowledgeable of basic cooking language and skills (i.e. garnish(ing), vegetable preparation techniques, etc.) Knowledgeable of food safety and sanitation requirements and demonstrates use on a daily basis. Maintains a positive, customer oriented attitude to include being friendly, outgoing, and demonstrating a can-do philosophy. Meets SRH and department standards as outlined in policies and procedures. Executes all job duties in accordance with recognized safety procedures. Demonstrates the ability to make calm and sensible decisions under various work situations, always dealing with immediate problems reasonably. Maintains a positive, customer-oriented attitude. Meets organizational and work unit standards as outlined in policies and procedures. Performs all job duties in accordance with recognized safety procedures. Assist with caterings and Bistro service. Clean dining room intermittently throughout day. Wash dishes throughout meal service and as needed. Assists other Dietary staff as needed. Assist with Bistro meal service. Complete pre work as needed. Assist with Bistro meal line breakdown. Empty garbage and recycling. Assist with clean-up after caterings. Additional items: Constant cleaning as needed, answer e-mails, assist with rotating weekly cleaning schedule and complete daily and weekly cleaning lists. Demonstrates ability to use and clean slicer, ovens, deep fryer, 3 comp sink, blender, mixer, range, microwave, garbage disposal and dish machine safely. Able to use system to print off patient diets, respond/send e-mails and work orders. Knowledge and use of computer, and copy machines, phone lines, cash register and printer. Attends scheduled work unit meeting and in-services. Maintains current food service permit through the State. Attends teams training and updates.
Uses and disposes of confidential information appropriately. Shares expertise and knowledge with others. Cares for equipment properly. Shares responsibility in facility upkeep (i.e.: see it, own it, do it, solve it). Seeks information and plans work to maximize team effectiveness.
Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace.
Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner.
Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings.
Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Education
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Experience/Training
One years of food service experience in a hospital or similar setting preferred.
License/Certifications
Current Food Handlers Permit required upon hire.
Other Skills
Knowledge and use of computers, email and phones.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
