Provides the clerical and scheduling support to facilitate hospital admission for surgical procedures. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply.
Essential Functions
Assist surgical patients with registration requirements for hospital admission. Collects patient information for surgical procedures. Accept patient payment according to established policy and procedure. Schedule surgical procedures. Update surgery schedule in EPIC. Coordinates development of the daily surgery schedule. Provides timely notice of changes to the schedule to appropriate personnel. Respond to incoming phone calls promptly and processes appropriately. Maintain the patient’s medical record with relevant surgery documentation and pre-op paperwork. Build patient charts in an accurate and timely manner per established procedure. Provide exemplary customer service as a resource person for patients, visitors, staff, physicians and others. Estimates out of pocket expenses for patient and works closely with patient financial services. Check benefits and referrals for patients. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Education
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience/Training
Minimum of six (6) months clerical and computer experience. Experience in Surgical Services preferred. Registration experience preferred.
License/Certifications
None required.
Other Skills
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).
