Accounting Specialist
Position Overview
The accounting specialist will provide immediate support to the financial department with various accounting tasks to maintained organizational goals related to the recovery of wild salmon stocks. This position performs numerous accounting functions to aid consistent and timely financial reporting and reporting across departments and grants. Funding for this position is subject to the availability of grants or contracts funding. This position receives guidance from and reports directly to the Finance & Administrative Manager.
Accounts Payable:
- Assist with weekly requisition, purchase orders, and invoicing for weekly check run.
- Review and verify invoice for completeness and authorization of payment.
- Match invoices with purchase orders and receipts.
- Assist with departmental credit card reconciliation.
- Verify appropriate account codes to transaction for proper classification.
- Reconcile vendor statements.
- Process capital expenditures and fleet expenditures logs.
Accounts Receivables:
- Prepare and seek approval from project managers prior to submitting billing invoices to all funding agencies quarterly or as needed.
- Assist with accounts receivable aging and follow up on overdue invoices.
- Maintain active grant list update, file and maintain grant billing files updated.
- Support in maintaining grant module, i.e. creating accounts in grant module, updating budgets.
- Daily Deposit Transmissions and accurate recording of agencies payments.
Accounting/Administrative Supporting Tasks:
- Assist with monthly payroll as needed.
- Assist with filing and preparation of employee personnel folders.
- Assist with the creation of new grant funding accounts in accounting software.
- Assist in the preparation of financial budgeting, statements, and reports, for monthly, quarterly and annual closing process.
- Assist in the preparation of journal entries.
- Assist with the preparation of month-end closing procedures.
- Assist with retention and purging of organizational and/or departmental files as needed.
- Assist as needed with other accounting and administration duties assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The successful applicant will have the following:
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures of SRSC.
· Proficiency in accounting software, MS Office Suite, strong Excel skills along with good accounting, math, and office computer skills; ability to use standard office equipment.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
· Good organizational and time management skills.
· Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Education/Experience:
· Associate’s degree (preferably in accounting, bookkeeping, business administration, finance, or related field) preferred or equivalent education with combination of professional experiences of at least 2 years.
· Experience in governmental and non-profit accounting and tribal organization preferred.
Working Conditions:
This position requires daily reporting to the office in Burlington, WA. This position is a full-time position. SRSC operating hours are Monday – Thursday 7:00am to 5:00pm. Flexibility is required for attendance at occasional meeting/event to travel to Swinomish Reservation in La Conner, WA, and Sauk- Suiattle Reservation in Darrington, WA.
Preferences:
Position requires superior oral and written communication skills; sensitivity to the Native American culture, customs, and traditions; possession of valid Washington driver’s license and ability to comply with the Drug Free Workplace Act.
Hourly Rate:
This is an hourly position with a range of $24.00 to $30.00 depending on the combination between professional experience and education.
