Position Summary

The Opportunity : Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking a dynamic, creative, reliable, and passionate Recruitment and Outreach Specialist to join our outstanding outreach team.

This role is primarily based at the Whidbey Island Campus in Oak Harbor, with assignments to the Mount Vernon Campus or other recruitment locations 1-2 days per week as needed. The position encompasses both on-campus and off-campus activities, including community outreach and recruitment efforts. The Recruitment and Outreach Specialist will focus on developing relationships with high schools and community partners, particularly within the Whidbey Island community. This role supports all prospective students across both campuses, with a special emphasis on transfer students, Veterans, and military affiliated students through targeted outreach and intake assistance. Proven ability to understand and address the unique challenges and needs of these populations, providing tailored support and resources to facilitate their educational and personal success.

Key responsibilities include coordinating and hosting information sessions, presentations, and campus tours at both campuses, participating in outreach events such as Try-A-Trade and Learning with Leaders at the Mount Vernon Campus, and developing and implementing recruitment initiatives specifically for the Whidbey Island campus. Additionally, the person in this role will propose and launch outreach and communication campaigns to increase inquiry, applicant, and yield rates at Whidbey Island.

This position is overtime eligible and scheduled work weeks may vary. This position requires occasional weekend and evening work. While schedules will typically be provided in advance, the individual must be flexible to accommodate any urgent needs that may arise. Any time worked over 40 hours per work week will be compensated at the overtime rate.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

    Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Serve as a key member of the recruitment team, focusing on engaging prospective students, particularly in the Whidbey Island community, and supporting transfer students, BEDA and Dual credit students, and veterans;
  • Serve as a key member of the recruitment team, focused on engaging prospective students in the Whidbey Island community and broader SVC district with an emphasis on target populations established by the College;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, community partners, and the Naval Air Station (NAS) in the Whidbey Island community;
  • Coordinate and host campus tours at the Whidbey Island Campus and occasionally at the Mount Vernon Campus;
  • Lead and support outreach and recruitment events, such as "Try-A-Trade" and "Learning with Leaders," and develop new events to attract applicants;
  • Collaborate closely with the Veterans Education department to support prospective veteran and military affiliated students in their transition to SVC, including providing information and resources;
  • Develop strategies to increase the physical presence of SVC materials in the Whidbey Island community including flyers, brochures, and announcements, in collaboration with the outreach team, marketing department, Dual Credit team, and other programmatic stakeholders (such as Academic Affairs);
  • Participate in community meetings, programs, and events where the college can be promoted;
  • Lead outreach and recruitment meetings focused on Whidbey Island campus recruitment efforts to enhance communication and address outreach needs with key staff, contacts, and stakeholders at SVC and throughout the broader community. This may involve data analysis to identify and improve strategies for increasing enrollment at the Whidbey Island campus.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organizational and Leadership Skills : Demonstrated experience in event coordination and recruitment, with a strong commitment to equity and inclusion. Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple outreach activities and events simultaneously. Project management experience is a plus;
  • Public Speaking : Proficient in public speaking and presenting information clearly to diverse audiences, including large groups. Capable of engaging listeners, adapting presentations on-the-fly, and delivering compelling messages about the college's programs and opportunities. Skilled in building rapport with individuals from various backgrounds and facilitating discussions in an accessible and informative manner;
  • Social Media Proficiency : Skilled in leveraging social media platforms to promote college initiatives, engage with prospective students, and enhance outreach efforts. Ability to create and manage engaging content that aligns with the college's brand and goals;
  • Improvisation and Adaptability : Ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing circumstances. Comfortable improvising during events or presentations to address unexpected issues or enhance engagement;
  • Technological Proficiency : Ability to leverage technology to improve communication and engagement with prospective students;
  • Event Management : Experience in managing large-scale or complex events, with a focus on logistics, coordination, and successful execution;
  • Time Management : Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines across various projects and locations;
  • Demonstrated organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and event coordination experience, with a proven commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree OR a minimum of two years of experience in recruitment, customer service, sales, or community outreach settings OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in facilitating or teaching workshops, seminars, and / or presentations for diverse groups of individuals, focusing on accessibility and inclusion;
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license. Applicants from out of state will need to acquire a Washington State Driver's license prior to beginning employment.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply (Spanish preferred);
  • Experience in sales, business relations, outreach, or marketing, while promoting access and success for diverse student populations;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, including Basic Adult Education (BEDA) students, refugees, veterans, and other underserved groups;
  • Experience developing and maintaining collaborative high school and community partner relationships;
  • Background in recruitment and outreach, and admissions in a technical / community or other college setting.

    Salary and Benefits :

  • Annual salary rate for this twelve-month, 100% of full-time position is $52,000 - $55,000 depending on experience;
  • Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
  • This position is exempt from civil service. This position is eligible for overtime.
