What are the responsibilities and job description for the Naturalist - Park Ranger position at Skidaway Island State Park?

Naturalist Primary Responsibilities:
Assists the Interpretive Ranger in plans, coordination, and implementation of education and recreational programs and activities for visitors. Identifies and sets themes, goals, and objectives for programs and activities that promote conservation, protection, and responsible use of the park’s natural and cultural resources. Plans and executes thought-provoking and interactive programs that are a minimum of 30-45 minutes for stationary programs and up to 4 miles for guided hike programs. Self-evaluates, accepts constructive feedback, and revises programs as necessary.
Assists Interpretive Ranger in planning and conducting Junior Ranger summer day camps for children.
Provides superior customer service to the public by greeting and providing visitors with information on the site, programs, trails, interpretive center, and flora, fauna, history, ecology, and recreation of the park.
Reptile animal care including land and aquatic turtles, fish, and snakes. Feeds animals, cleans enclosures, handles and socializes reptiles, and presents live animal programs to the public.
Develops and distributes educational and public relations materials such as flyers, brochures, and program calendars. Assists with “Roving Rangers” by regularly distributing program flyers and calendars to the campsites. Updates site bulletin boards as necessary.
Provides routine maintenance and upkeep of park facilities. Performs janitorial tasks to maintain cleanliness of site, visitor center, restrooms, and Interpretive Center. Provides trail and site maintenance by removing trash, limbs, and debris from grounds.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assists the Park Office which may include answering phone calls, customer service, POS Sales, general concierge duties for the park and surrounding areas, as well as light custodial duties.
Performs various clerical and administrative tasks in support of the park office and operations.

- Conducts self in a professional manner as a representative of the State of Georgia – Parks and Historic Sites.
- Effective and polite public speaker comfortable with groups of all sizes and demographics.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments during all seasons.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
