Essential Functions :
The Activities Director will be responsible for day-to-day activities of participants in large groups, small groups and as individuals to help meet their psychosocial needs. Activities Director works with the center team to create a calendar of therapeutic and meaningful activities, including art, music, exercise, cognitive stimulation, new learning, and special events. The monthly calendar of program events and activities is used by staff and families and serves as a blueprint for the daily schedule. Activities Director is responsible for creating an environment that is uplifting, stimulating and offers participants the opportunity to be successful. The Activities Director will be responsible for helping to assess the needs of the participants, plan activities in coordination with the adult day services team, and implement and evaluate activities for future planning.
The Activities Director will report directly to the Program Director. The Activities Director will report any changes in participants’ conditions to the Program Director or Nurse, . The Activities Director will also help participants with completing activities of daily living while at the Center.
Employee must maintain effective communication with all staff, participants, caregivers and / or families. Good organizational and time management skills are essential. The employee must maintain a professional attitude and adherence to state licensing policies and procedures. Must have ability to lift, transfer, up to 50 pounds. Must maintain participant confidentiality at all times.
Desired Qualifications :
Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Education :
Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in recreation, music, or art therapy (or related field), or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Experience :
1. Minimum of 1 of the following :
- 2 years’ experience in activities within the last 5 years
2. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands :
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend and squat for prolonged periods; ability to push and pull objects and lift and carry up to 20 pounds, unassisted, on a frequent basis (occasionally up to 50 pounds); full use of gross and fine motor skills of the upper and lower extremities (i.e., writing in charts, assisting with toileting and incontinence care, assisting with meals, activities, etc.)
Working Conditions :
Primarily inside in well-lighted, well-ventilated areas

Interacts in a tactful, diplomatic, and humanistic manner with participants, families, visitors, and co-workers to provide a safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective caring environment which ensures the self-respect, personal dignity, rights and physical safety of each participant and facility guest.
4. Maintains a dependable attendance record and adheres to standards of cleanliness, grooming, hygiene, and dress code.
