The Skokie Park District is seeking a Dance Specialist for the Summer On Broadway Performing Arts Camp. The Dance Specialist Works cooperatively with staff in the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities for ages 7-10, 10-12 or 12-17. This position focuses on dance performance skills aimed toward showcasing campers’ abilities in a musical theatre production during the final week of each (2) 4-week camp sessions. If available, this person may also perform this role during the one week intensive camp session at the end of the summer. The dance specialist coordinates with theatre and music specialists plus performance leaders on managing auditions, scheduling rehearsal curriculum and also with technical specialists & leaders on creating the philosophy of each production. All specialists help to guide the selection of sets, costumes, and props. He/she works closely with all specialists, the camp director and supervisor to bring these elements together, makes suggestions on purchases needed, promotions and makes every effort to stay within the production budget set by the supervisor. The Dance Specialist adheres to and actively enforces safety procedures of the district and its overall management program. The Dance Specialist shall work closely and cooperatively with other members of the district to insure a coordinated program format. Performs other assignments as required.
Hours: Camp begins June 9, 2025 through August 1, 2025 and may also include the Intensive camp from August 4-8, 2025. Hours are generally: 8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. but some days may vary pending camp meetings & performances. Candidate must be available to attend training sessions in the week prior to camp plus 1-2 production meetings in the latter half of May, 2025. Special accommodations for limited days off could be considered if they are approved prior to hiring. In addition, staff must attend meetings, training sessions and camp family performances as directed.
Qualifications
Must be a mature, responsible adult, at least 18 years of age. Prior experience teaching dance and in choreographing children’s theatre experience is preferred. Performing Arts Summer camp employment experience is also preferred. Must be responsible, creative and enjoy working with young children ages 7-17. Prefer a dance major or an individual with a Bachelor’s degree in dance.
