Responsibilities:
Patient Experience and Customer Service:
- Welcome patients with a warm, friendly demeanor and assist with checkin/checkout.
- Schedule and confirm appointments, answer phones, process paperwork, help ensure a streamlined patient flow.
Pre-testing and Clinical Support:
- Perform pre-exam diagnostic testing, including auto-refraction, tonometry, lensometry, retinal imaging, and visual field testing.
- Gather patient history, symptoms, and preliminary concerns for the doctor.
- Educate patients on contact lens wear, care, and insertion/removal techniques.
- Work closely with doctor to present accurate patient summary and needs.
- Maintain, clean, and reset clinical spaces and exam rooms between every patient.
Optical Sales:
- Provide a premium customer experience by assisting patients with frame selection, lens options, and fitting eyewear to meet their lifestyle and vision needs.
- Assist with fittings, adjustments, and repairs to ensure maximum comfort and functionality for each patient.
- Offer guidance on lens technology (single vision, progressive, digital lenses, etc.), and help patients understand prescription requirements and options.
- Maintain an organized and aesthetically appealing display of eyewear, ensuring frames are regularly cleaned, neatly arranged, and inventory is up-to-date.
Administrative Support:
- Verify insurance benefits and assist with billing as necessary.
- Ensure all patient orders (eyeglass lenses, frames, contacts, etc.) are processed accurately and timely.
Collaborate with the Team:
- Assist with office organization, keeping the space clean, functional, and welcoming.
- Restock and manage inventory of eyewear, contact lenses, and office supplies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and office protocols.
Qualifications:
Certification & Training:
- Previous experience in optometry or medical setting (recommended, not required)
- Cross-training in both front desk operations (scheduling) and technical tasks (frame selection, adjustments, pre-testing).
Skills & Abilities
- A friendly, professional demeanor with strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact confidently with patients to build trust and rapport.
- Comfort working with technology, electronic health records (EHR), and diagnostic equipment.
- Become familiar with our high-quality, curated,and independent eyewear brands to provide authentic knowledge and recommendations.
- Verify insurance and interpret benefits with medical and vision plans including VSP, Eyemed, Spectera, Davis Vision, etc.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-end environment.
Personal Qualities:
- Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to accuracy and consistency in all aspects of the job, including pre-testing, measurements, orders, and insurance/payment processing.
- Willingness to learn and develop optical knowledge and streamline flow alongside the doctor.
- A keen eye for style, design, and fashion, with an understanding of premium brands and high-quality materials.
- Strong work ethic, professional appearance, and positive attitude.
