Position Overview :

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory¿s Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world¿s premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150 structures for the Department of Energy. We are a service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory's Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities and Operations Mechanical Engineering team. In this position, you will provide mechanical engineering design and review related to SLAC¿s facilities and mechanical infrastructure systems. Examples of projects include design & modification, construction support, and operation and maintenance of campus mechanical infrastructural systems including HVAC (air handlers, fan coil units, boilers, etc), cooling towers & chillers, pumps, low conductivity & process cooling water, compressed air, sanitary sewer, storm drain, & domestic water systems. Tasks may include performing cooling and heating load, pressure drop, and system volume calculations to size and select equipment; reviewing and commenting on mechanical and plumbing drawings, design guidelines, and specification packages as facilities mechanical engineer for mechanical (wet and dry), plumbing / process piping, and fire protection as needed.

This position is an employee of Stanford University, providing support to the Department of Energy (DOE) contract at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This position reports to the F&O Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Note : SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park; CA.

Your specific responsibilities include :

Perform technical engineering responsibilities applying standard planning, design, and engineering principles in the construction, modification, operation, maintenance, and utilities servicing of university facilities.

Perform engineering work, such as preparation of schematics, drawings, and specifications.

Develop, document, monitor, and analyze new and existing initiatives.

Prepare technical plans and reviews.

Assist with project activities (e.g., coordinate with technical team members, review internal draft materials prepared by others to ensure quality and consistency, track project status, handle internal and client communications).

Advise on feasibility and costs, working with outside contractors, public utility contacts, Stanford utility groups, and Stanford user groups.

To be successful in this position you will bring :

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other appropriate specialty, or combination of education and work experience meeting the CA Engineer-in-Training requirements.

Must have directly related experience with design, modification, installation, and commissioning of mechanical infrastructure systems including HVAC, process utilities and plumbing systems.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.

Proficiency with standard desktop applications for word processing, Smartsheets, Bluebeam, and presentations.

Knowledge and proficiency with engineering software AUTOCAD, and REVIT related assignments.

The expected pay range for this position is $87,256 - $97,800 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory / Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
