What are the responsibilities and job description for the Craft Production Brewer position at Sleeping Giant Brewing Co?
Our full-time Production Brewer assists in the execution of daily shift duties in the brewhouse and cellar. Top candidates for this position are collaborative, adaptable, and pursue life-long learning opportunities. We’re looking for an individual to join the team to help with our continuous improvement efforts to scale with our rapid growth. We’re currently brewing on a 50 bbl system brewing dozens of different recipes/brands a year.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in all areas of the brewing process as directed: weighing and measuring ingredients, mixing and fermentation process, wort production, filtration and centrifugation, dry hopping, manage incoming and outgoing yeast, transfer green beer to aging, conditioning the beer, CIP duties
- Work with and support the Brewing Team to execute the planned production schedule
- Collect quality and relevant data to maintain batch records using Google Docs, Microsoft Office and OrchestratedBEER software and have the ability to learn new applications as needed
- Daily sampling as requested
- Maintain a “safety first” attitude to keep the facility clean, safe and well organized which ensures a safe working environment
- Assist in restocking and organizing the brewing ingredients
- Assist in troubleshooting production upsets to escalate critical issues in a timely manner
- GMP manufacturing knowledge and willingness to learn and support operator based maintenance
- Flexibility with brew shifts, as they may change depending on planned schedule
- Operate forklift as needed. We will certify if not trained.

- Lift up to 60 lbs repeatedly
- Maneuver up to 165 lbs
- Work on feet up to 10 hours
- Repeated bending, kneeling and crouching
- Cold, wet, hot and muggy conditions
- Four - 10 hour shift schedule, no overnights - Mon-Fri or Fri-Mon possible
- As new opportunities present themselves, additional responsibilities may be assigned
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Additional education/training preferred, such as relevant Bachelor degree or certification from IBD, Siebels, UC-Davis, Metro State, etc.
- One year of brewing experience in a production brewery is desired, regional sized brewery experience is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 21
- Understanding of or experience with flow, volume control in a food/beverage closed system plant
- Ability to participate effectively in a team environment and to communicate cross functionally verbally and in writing
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and multitasking skills
- Be flexible with shifting work schedule

PAY RANGE
$19.50 - 23.00 depending on experience
