Sleepyhead is a rapidly growing e-commerce brand specializing in high-quality mattress toppers designed to enhance sleep comfort. As we continue to expand into new markets and scale operations, we are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations, ensure compliance, and optimize accounting processes to support our growth.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Oversight

• Oversee all accounting functions, including financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close processes.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal financial policies.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and financial transactions.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Provide financial insights to optimize profitability, manage costs, and improve efficiency.
• Assist in evaluating revenue trends, pricing strategies, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Oversee capital management strategies to support business growth initiatives.

Tax & Compliance

• Ensure timely and accurate sales tax filings and compliance through platforms like TaxJar.
• Manage tax filings, audits, and regulatory compliance to minimize risk exposure.
• Strengthen internal controls to maintain financial integrity and security.

Operational & Strategic Support

• Collaborate with leadership to refine financial processes and reporting systems.
• Improve financial tools and reporting accuracy using QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel functions.
• Spearhead process improvements, automation initiatives, and system implementations to support scaling operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA or CMA preferred.
• 7 years of experience in accounting, financial management, or controllership, ideally within e-commerce, retail, or consumer goods.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, forecasting, and process optimization.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (QuickBooks Online preferred).
• Deep understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and compliance.
• Experience leading accounting teams and improving financial processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
