POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
- The thrift store Sales Associate is responsible for selling merchandise and assisting in the daily operations of Fred & Betty’s thrift store, including store appearance and cleanliness, customer assistance, pricing, cleaning and stocking merchandise, serving and leading volunteer staff, and participating in daily organization of store operations.

- Reports to Thrift Store Lead Manager.
Job Skills and Requirements
- One year of retail sales experience is strongly preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to run a cash register.
- Excellent communications skills; Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Strong customer service skills; Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Strong social perceptiveness; awareness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Empathy.
- Able to follow direction and execute in the area of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Basic math skills required. (Ability to add and subtract.)
- Experience in pricing merchandise and conducting inventories preferred.
- Ability to work with a team.
- Self-motivated and flexible.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following represents the major tasks and duties. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Therefore, the Sales Associate may perform other related tasks under the direction of the Thrift Store Lead Manager.
- Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
- Describe merchandise and explain use and/or operation of merchandise to customers.
- Recommend and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
- Compute prices and total purchases, then receive and process cash and credit payments using Square Register. Provide change as needed.
- Answer questions regarding Fred & Betty’s as a business and SLOCA as a school.
- Clean, price, and display all donations/inventory in store.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices. Be aware of items for sale on Instagram and other retail websites.
- Generate daily reports, maintain accurate records related to sales and cash handling.
- Assist and receive daily donations.
- Dress mannequins as needed.
- Restock clothing that has been left in dressing rooms and maintains cleanliness of the dressing room area.
- Answer phones.
- Organize and clean store displays and work areas.
- Sweep, mop, dust, and clean bathrooms as needed or directed.
- Defer to the store manager/shift leader immediately with any customer complaints or any other problems in the store.
- Staff members are expected to adhere to all Administrative Directives as well as any applicable SLOCA Policies including those specifically outlined in the Employee Manual.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a limited basis. Able to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods of time and move about campuses easily. This position also may require long periods of standing and walking.Able to work irregular hours if needed for meetings, etc.
