POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
- The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for leading and managing SLO Classical Academy’s non-profit retail thrift store with excellence and creativity, ensuring all operations are consistent with standard business good practices and the mission and vision of SLO Classical Academy.

- The Thrift Store Manager oversees paid staff

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required:
- A willingness to learn about and support the mission of SLO Classical Academy
- High school graduation required; college degree desired
- 3 years experience in retail
- 2 years experience in management
- Able to take guidance, yet work independently with minimal need for supervision
- Highly organized, yet good with people
- A visionary with a growth mindset, able to help develop and carry out vision for SLO Classical Academy’s thrift store
- Strength in recruiting, building, leading and supervising teams of employees and volunteers
- Ability to maintain a high level of morale between employees, volunteers, customers and the SLO Classical Academy Thrift Store team
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
SLO Classical Academy representative and team member
- Uphold and exemplify SLOCA’s mission, vision, virtues and goals as it relates to the thrift store as well as during interactions with the SLO Classical Academy community members and the greater community
- Serve as a bridge between SLO Classical Academy and the larger community
- Attend all SLO Classical Academy meetings related to Thrift Store as requested (i.e. 1-1’s, etc)
- Communicate regularly with Volunteer Coordinator and volunteers at SLO Classical Academy
Store Management
- Assist in developing long-range goals for the store, create plan for execution and oversee their implementation
- Provide excellent customer experience and hospitality by creating a culture that is customer friendly and responsive, ensure that customers are experiencing this warmth
- Ensure that store is hitting financial goals monthly, communicate this to sales associates and report on metrics to Business Manager
- Oversee marketing and community outreach
- Prominently and aesthetically display and advertise current store sales and events
- Create an atmosphere that sets the store apart - one that is unique, clean, fresh, updated and friendly while offering competitive pricing
- Oversee the ordering and stocking of supplies and fixtures for store and back room operations as needed (printing, stamps, paper products, cleaning, tags, storage, display, etc.), teaming with the BM for decisions that affect the overall look and feel of the store. Business Manager to be included for big decisions
- Monitor building (lights, heat, doors, entryway, usage) and respond to facility maintenance and operating issues
Procurement and management of donations
- Develop ideas to attract additional quality donations
- Develop a marketing plan to get the word out about the store, building and maintaining social media opportunities, newsletters, etc.
- Develop working relationships with area businesses and community
- Develop working relationships with SLO Classical Academy’s community of donors
- Promote and procure quality donations from businesses, estates, and individuals
- Gather and monitor store inventory to maintain quality and appropriate store inventory
- Accept, process, examine, price and direct donations to achieve sales goal
People management
- Supervise, direct, motivate, recruit, onboard and mentor thrift store employees and volunteers, maintaining a strong and attractive culture
- Develop an efficient and effective volunteer plan to encourage, simplify, care for and best utilize volunteers
- Ensure all rules and regulations regarding employees and volunteers are adhered to
Financial Management
- Comply with all laws and policies in relation to employees, business, practices, etc.
- Work with EBD and Accountant to set and adhere to a yearly budget
- Set strong and motivating yearly, monthly and daily goals regarding sales
- Oversee daily cash in/out
- Work with SLO Classical Academy accountant to develop daily, monthly, and yearly systems that provide accountability for store income and expenses
- Keep record of all funds
- Make a minimum of weekly deposits
- Review monthly financials and provide recommendations based on financial reports
- Create and oversee standard operating procedures, ensure staff are being trained and these procedures are being implemented
Staff members are expected to adhere to all Administrative Directives as well as any applicable SLOCA Policies including those specifically outlined in the Employee Manual.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a repeated basis. Able to, with help, assemble and move racks and shelves for extended periods of time. Able to sort items for extended periods of time and carry them up and down stairs as needed. Able to stand for long periods of time. Able to work irregular hours as needed
