POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
- Responsible for leading and managing the aesthetics and related functions of Fred & Betty’s thrift store with excellence and creativity ensuring consistency and quality in visual merchandising as well as the social media platforms in coordination with the Store Manager.
- Help carry out the directives of the Store Manager and Chief Advancement Officer by occasionally providing direction to the Sales Associates to create displays as well as carry out daily tasks. You will ensure that store personnel provide exceptional customer service.
JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Non-Exempt employee status
- 25 hours per week, year-round, Monday through Saturday
- Reports to Fred & Betty’s Store Manager
- Gives guidance, as required, to Fred and Betty’s paid staff
- The Merchandise Lead partners with SLO Classical Academy’s Chief Advancement Officer to accomplish goals and vision
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 years experience - Retail
- 1 years experience - Design
- Excellent people skills
- Preferred:
- Some experience with social media, including Instagram
- A well-developed eye for design in line with branding and merchandising goals
- Personal standard of excellence and creativity
- Able to take guidance, yet work independently with minimal need for supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- SLO Classical Academy representative and team member
- Uphold and exemplify SLOCA’s mission, vision, and goals as it relates to the thrift store as well as during interactions with the SLO Classical Academy community members and the greater community
- Serve as a bridge between SLO Classical Academy and the larger community
- Shared store culture - The Merchandise Lead will partner with the Store Manager to:
- Work with the Chief Advancement Officer to create and maintain plans to fulfill the vision and goals of the thrift store, including measurable store goals
- Provide excellent customer experience by creating a culture that is beautiful, customer-friendly and responsive
- Create an atmosphere that sets the store apart - one that is unique, clean, fresh, and updated while offering competitive pricing
- Market and advertise Fred and Betty’s on social media and to the community
- Find ways to promote the store to the local community
- Create and follow social media posting schedule and strategy in alignment with the brand guide
- Promote in-store events to the community
- Stay current on visual, sales, social, and marketing/branding trends
- Follow marketing and social strategy as set by the Chief Advancement Officer with guidance from the Marketing and Merchandising Director
- Aesthetics
- Create effective ambience and mood in line with our vision and goals
- Create and maintain stand-out displays and “curb appeal”
- Train sales associates to create displays in the store
- Ideate, budget, and construct front window displays four times per year staying within approved budget
- Ensure aesthetic branding is followed as related to marketing vision as approved and set by the Marketing and Merchandising Director
- Events
- Prominently and aesthetically display and advertise current store sales and events
- Attend store events as needed to maintain visual displays as well as provide customer service
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a limited basis. Able to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods of time and move about campuses easily. Able to work irregular hours if needed for meetings, etc.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25.0 per week
