What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lease Records Analyst position at SM Energy?
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
Analyze various leases, contracts, agreements and title documentation to summarize company
ownership and determine common and more complex obligations
Set up new leases and other agreements in the Quorum Land System according to company
processes, proof work and approve agreements to ensure accuracy and data integrity of self and others
Perform regular lease maintenance, including research and analysis, to ensure accurate reporting;
obtain missing data, when necessary.
Review Second Set of Eyes on new lease set up and lease maintenance
Manage payment calendar for assigned area, ensuring timely and accurate payment of rentals,
extension options, shut-in payments, and minimum royalties.
Work with regional land to ensure that obligation and expiration calendars monitored and
completed in a timely manner
Review Title Opinions, analyze mineral ownership and Gross and Net Working interest
ownership, depth severances, lease provisions, and chain of title while updating Quorum (Working the Well)
Provide monthly reporting requirements of acreage adjustments to Landman and Managers for
10K reporting
Review monthly Data Integrity reports and make appropriate Quorum updates
Prepare correspondence – cover letters, inquiries, requests, and internal communications.
Perform or manage special projects as assigned to support Land Administration and Company
goals
Assist with Due Diligence for company acquisitions and divestitures
Follow, improve upon, and create new departmental processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy,
consistency, and data integrity
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that
ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities
Other duties as assigned
Review leases, understand and determine shut-in and minimum royalty
Ensure timely and accurate payment of rentals, shut-in payments and minimum royalties
Set up new leases and contracts in Land system, proof work and approve all agreements being
created in order to ensure accuracy and data integrity
Make and oversee ownership changes and clean-up of lease records
Perform general lease records maintenance in land system, ensure accurate and thorough
documentation
Prepare correspondence – cover letters, inquiries, request, etc.
Perform special projects as assigned to support Land Administration and Company goals
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that
ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:
Ability to understand, summarize and report company ownership and obligations for assigned area. Ability to account for and reconcile acreage changes each month/quarter and answer questions regarding acreage from regional land, accounting, audit, and other departments. Ability calculate and maintain company participation on leases. Proficient understanding and knowledge of acquisition/divestiture process.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Petroleum Management or Business Preferred
Typical Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years related experience
SALARY RANGE: $76,000-$105,000 plus annual discretionary bonus
WORK SCHEDULE: Primary Remote with ability to come to the Denver office on short notice.
