We are a fully integrated sand supply and services company, offering complete sand, logistics, storage, and management solutions to our customers with our in-basin trans-loading terminals and our smartsystem storage capabilities. We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, which have access to three Class I rail lines, allowing us to deliver products substantially anywhere in the United States and Canada.
We are seeking candidates to join our Lab Tech team . The laboratory technician will maintain normal function of the lab and sampling/testing equipment throughout the plant and will administer the plant’s quality control standard operating procedure
The position will work under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor; but will require taking direction from other Smart Sand managers. This position is based primarily at our Blair, WI facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains hourly production samples and tracks production results for all production activities.
- Qualifies all rail samples. Tests plant feed, waste product, and dry plant products.
- Ensures proper upkeep of lab instruments and sampling/testing equipment throughout the plant.
- Obtains samples from various areas of the facility on a consistent basis. Including the Wet Plants.
- Maintains database of lab sample processing data.
- Maintains equipment that separates sand according to texture grade.
- Observes color of sand to define clay content and notifies supervisor when excess clay or equipment malfunction is detected.
- Follows API sampling and testing procedures.
- Have a general understanding of gradation and the steps taken to keep product up to Company quality standards.
- Works cooperatively to comply with facility-wide environmental and quality management standards.
- Assists in keeping the plant up to company standards by completing workplace examinations, communicating safety, environmental, production, and maintenance issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
- MSHA training and experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
- Good judgment is required and the ability to work independently.
- Strong computer skills required.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be able to prioritize.
- Must be adaptable and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have high safety standards for self and others.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
