Job Title: Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications

General Summary
Under general direction, the Manager is responsible for implementation of the Authority’s internal and external marketing strategies and marketing communications. Oversees the activities of fixed route Customer Care Representatives, and day-to-day operations of the Central Office and Royal Oak Transit Centers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all publications.
- Serves as the Authority’s primary media contact and spokesperson. Ensures regular contact with targeted media and appropriate response to media requests.
- Standardizes all Authority signage, print and electronic materials such as signboards, letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc.
- Plans, implements and administers the Authority’s marketing and advertising programs and budgets.
- Recommends advertising campaign concepts; works directly with advertising agency and/or advertisers, media outlets, writers and producers in the development of advertising vehicles.
- Responsible for maintaining consistency in brand, content and design of all marketing and advertising materials.
- Ensures program measurables are met.
- Reviews and analyzes sponsorship opportunities for local communities in coordination with Community Ombudspersons.
- Develops innovative strategies to promote SMART and improve brand awareness.
- Supervises various marketing programs including Get A Job, Get A Ride and TransitChek.
- Advise and coordinate with Service Development to determine marketing, advertising and promotions for service and routes.
- Supervises the graphics production and transit communications functions.
- Administers and monitors Bus Advertising contract and generated advertising revenues.
- Develops and coordinates special events, job fairs and marketing presentations.
- Serves as SMART representative to civic, cultural, governmental and ad hoc committees.
- Plans and coordinates special SMART events, national, state and local transit events.
- Research, write, and edits SMART whitepapers, industry reports and informational documents.

Oversees the fixed route telephone information function which includes providing telephone information to passengers regarding SMART fixed route services, responding to passenger complaints and suggestions, and providing public timetables and general information to passengers, as requested.
- Oversees the Transit Center function which includes the sale of passes and tickets, and answering customer inquiries on fares, routes and schedules.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in marketing, communications, or public relations capacity.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.
- Proficient in Windows-based word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
