POSITION SCOPE AND PURPOSE:  Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specification and quality standards.  Manage projects from concept through manufacturing launch of new programs that meet and exceed customers’ requirements while matching SMC’s business needs.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Quality: Exceed customer expectations as related to part, product, and or assembly.
  • Safety: Analyze manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure they are operating within specification, meet ergonomic standards, and are safe.
  • Service: Meeting the needs of external and internal customers related to tasks and the manufacturing team’s needs for success.
  • Leadership: Provides support and technical solutions to team members ensuring project deliverables are complete, accurate, and meet established timelines.
  • Cost: Research, plan, and develop robust manufacturing processes that are on-time and under budget.  Analyze equipment layout, workflow, and assembly methods to achieve maximum utilization of resources.
  • Continuous Improvement: Manage tasks with knowledge gained from previous projects and other SME’s to continually drive greater results.
  • Culture: Support a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to exceed expectations.

 

OTHER POSITION DUTIES:

  • Works with all departments required to successfully complete project tasks under the mentorship of a level II, III, or Management.
  • Assists in the completion of product and manufacturing process solutions.
  • Active participant in DFM activities.
  • Responsible for the IQ and OQ documentation of secondary equipment and processes. 
  • Develop work cell layouts, work instructions, procures specialty automation equipment, and new programs and implements best process improvements and corrective actions to include but not limited to work cell layout, instructions, and automation equipment improvements.
  • Performs product and process qualification activities with the Quality Engineer to fulfill the approved protocol.
  • Research, develop, and implement new technologies that align to business needs. 
  • Create and present cost justifications supported with data. 
  • Travel may be required to meet customer needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • BSME in an applicable Engineering discipline with 0-3 years of experience, preferably in plastics or medical industries.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including work flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency; Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Solid Works.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, speak and understand English.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
  • The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.
