Smead Manufacturing is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our Florence, SC team.  The Human Resources Generalist will manage all aspects of HR practices and processes for the Florence, SC branch. The HR Generalist is responsible for the administration, coordination and evaluation of all HR functions such as employment, compensation, employee relations, benefits, workers compensation and general employee services. Responsibilities also include providing direction, interpretation, and implementation of policies, procedures and various training programs.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Manager Guidance and Employee Relations

  • Partners with the facility leadership team to maintain a positive and respectful work environment, develop strong work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Partner with the corporate HR team and other branch HR personnel on company-wide initiatives and to ensure consistent administration of policies and procedures.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements and ensures regulatory compliance for Florence.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Ensure all employment practices comply with legal requirements and government regulations. Maintain current knowledge of state and federal regulations that impact the Florence workforce.
  • Oversee Staffing Agencies, coordinate personnel issues with agencies and temporary staff.
  • Administer safety and health programs, facilitate safety meetings, training, and awareness programs, and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements. Conduct routine safety inspections, investigate work related accidents, and initiate Worker’s Compensation claims.
  • Handle investigations and disciplinary investigations. Review and approve corrective actions recommended by leadership.   Represent the company at personnel related hearings and investigations.
  • Administer employee services such as EAP, service awards, and social events.
  • Administers EEO and Affirmative Action programs, serving as the designated officer. Assists leadership in understanding their role in the Affirmative Action Program.
  • Manage performance evaluations and wage recommendations ensuring consistency with compensation structure and internal pay equity.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.

 

Staffing/Recruiting

  • Create staffing and recruiting plans to support office and production needs. Responsible for recruiting and onboarding new employees and facilitating the new employee orientation program.
  • Screens candidates and develops employment offers
  • Develops onboarding and orientation plans for new hires

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5 years of experience in Human Resources.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including recruiting, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, preferably UKG
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to ensure complete support and understanding.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems using and adjusting tactics as appropriate to the situation.
  • Ability to set and achieve challenging goals, including the ability to focus personal and team efforts to achieve key business objectives and improve organizational performance.
