Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Accepts, prepares and assesses clinical specimens, performs all testing and related calculations, Evaluates and reports results, and Participates in additional activities that are necessary to satisfy department needs and requirements. EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent with accredited clinical laboratory rotation.
Experience
One to two years' experience in an accredited clinical laboratory preferred. Experience in laboratory science preferred.
LICENSURE
MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent or eligible.
Special Skills
Proficiency in office applications, Knowledge in hospital and laboratory information systems preferred. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner with hospital staff. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to work as a member of a team is essential.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands with dexterity and be able to talk and hear. The are occasionally required to stand' walk' and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception. and ability to adjust focus. They are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be tested for color blindness and be able to make necessary accommodations to perform testing accurately. incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job function with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities
- Accepts, prepares and assesses clinical specimens.
- 1.1 Determines acceptability of specimen. Documents those rejected, and notifies unit to redraw.
- Performs all testing and related calculations
- 2.1 Organizes workload, minimizing specimen processing delays and maximizing efficiency in processing tests as observed by manager
- Evaluates and reports results.
- 3.1 Demonstrates an appropriate level of understanding of scientific aspects of laboratory testing as observed by manager
- Participates in additional activities that are necessary to satisfy department needs and requirements.
- 4.1 Assists in implementing changes in existing or new procedures designated by departmental needs as indicated by feedback and as observed by manager
