GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Controller is a mid-level management position that will offer broad exposure across the organization and with executive leadership. Under the direction of the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller is a key member of the Accounting and Finance team and will be relied upon to assist in ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions and the production of monthly financial statements. This individual will be heavily involved in all statutory audit and tax requirements.
Successful candidates are comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, handling multiple priorities, demonstrating creativity in development and management of policies, procedures, and processes, and developing staff. This candidate will also act as a Business Partner and work cross-functionally with team members throughout the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of accounting records ensuring compliance with GAAP, including but not limited to:
- Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures
- Monthly Account reconciliation accuracy
- Fixed asset maintenance and CAPEX adherence
- Chart of Accounts maintenance
- Preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and management reports
- Financial statement review and data analysis to identify trends and provide insights to leadership
- Creation of accounting policies and procedures to ensure ownership and accountability within the department
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
- Coordination of audits (internal audits with parent company and external audits)
- Performing ad hoc internal audits to gain comfort over financial records
- Assist AR, AP and Payroll with accounting related questions
- Provide mentorship to the accounting and finance team members
- Sales and Use Tax Filings where applicable
- Assist in annual financial planning and monthly financial forecasting as needed
- Business Partner to other departments, including strategic planning and budget/expenditure monitoring
- Providing management/corporate executives with financial information vital to the decision-making process
- Participate in automation projects
- Staying updated on relevant accounting regulations and ensuring the company adheres to all financial reporting requirements
- All other duties as assigned by the Controller
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- CPA or working toward designation is required; MBA, CMA or other evidence of technical competence preferred
- 6 years applicable experience.
- Experience with one of the big 4 accounting firms or one of the larger second-tier firms
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel). Exposure to Access or building macros is a plus.
- Analytical mind that can review data and make sound conclusions
- Preference will be given to those that show strength in problem-solving ability and critical outside the box thinking
- Must be comfortable with wearing multiple hats daily
- Have a strong sense of business ethics, integrity, and discretion
- Attention to detail and sense of urgency
- Enjoys improving processes and creating policies and has a strong track record
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in an accounting ERP system and other computer tools
- Project Management: Establishes priorities and deadlines, assesses resources and defines next steps
- Financial Analysis: Analyzes situations, draws conclusions and makes decisions based on business/financial information.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid knowledge and application of GAAP and for accuracy of reporting business/financial information.
- Communication: Ability to develop and communicate verbally and in writing a POV on various accounting and business topics.
