Your Opportunity
The primary expectation of an Environmental Resource Person is based upon successful grower and DNR interaction. Successful interaction is defined by providing service to and ensuring compliance of contract growers and their actions as they relate to regulatory and contractual environment obligations. Other expectations would be communicating with Growers and Production Staff with any environmental concerns.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure regulatory and contractual compliance of all contract growers
- Having accountability for grower area
- Understand the art of communicating ideas and concepts along with rules and regulations
- Work with production staff on maintaining accountability and providing support
- Education of air and water quality NMP’s and regulations
- Communication of non-compliance issues to growers
- Proper team building
- Relationship building
- Empowerment of non-compliance issues
- Responding to specific grower requests
- Assist growers to educate/build relationships with neighbors and manure recipients
- Participating in planning and long-term objective meetings
- Utilization of digital photography
- Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date documentation of phone calls
- Develop an annual Nutrient Management Plan with contract growers
- Participating in status report
- Participate in meetings with production team
- Propose process changes to environmental team
- Proposal of department needs to specialists
- Implement new concepts as proposed by specialists
- Communication of company message points to growers
- Sharing compiled data with growers
- Broadening background and expansion of personal knowledge including acquirement of CCA certification
- Ingenuity for ideas to improve the system
- Ability to discuss fertilizer and recommendations
- Responsible for complying with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield dba Murphy-Brown LLC subscribes.
- Reports all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
- Reads and understands the company’s emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four- year college or university in Environmental related field and 5 years of progressive relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
- 2 years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
- Current Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain CCA Certification both state and international exams and maintain required licenses
- Excellent proven working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint programs
- Ability to learn and adapt to software programs
- Must be available for occasional travel
- Must be available to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Must understand that the Western Operations is a producer of high- quality pork for human consumption and must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for meat.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
